Zonta Club of Southfield
Zonta members volunteer their time, talents and money to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship and award programs aimed at furthering women's education, leadership and youth development.
Governor Quarles performed the induction of 45 members which included the installation of 4 officers. She presented 8th grader Ariana Mann, Z Club President, with the club Charter from Zonta InternationaI and a check for $250.00 from the Southfield Club. Governor Quarles told the Z Club members they were now embarking on a great journey into the Zonta World. Membership in Zonta is an honor and privilege. She hoped that they would move on to a Golden Z Club in college and as a professional in a Zonta Club when they get involved in their careers. The event was well attended by the parents of the young ladies, Zonta Club Members of Southfield Area, School Board Members, City officials and Judges from the community. Every seat in the house was taken!
The Z Club was a year in the making. It is comprised of 7th and 8th grade girls in the Southfield Public School System. The Z Club could not have been established without the leadership and support of Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson, Superintendent of Southfield Public Schools and Zontian from the Southfield Club. There are 5 Z Club advisors.
“First, we would like to thank Linda Nabers, Area 4 Director and Zonta Club of Southfield Area for all their hard work. It was an awesome experience had by all looking out at those eager faces. These young girls have an opportunity to be a part of a bigger network, an International Network. It’s all about service and leadership development. They will have many role models to emulate. Their first project will be the “Zonta Pillows” for breast cancer patients.” said Dr. Cook-Robinson.
We want to thank Jane White for sharing with us the message of human trafficking and for inspiring us all to act.
Did you know that 1 in 3 teens runaways is lured into prostitution within 48 hours of leaving home? That's not OK.
As long as such startling statistics exist, the Zonta Club of Southfield Area will continue to advocate for those who feel they are without a voice.
We hope to see you at our next event.
Peace,
The Zonta Club of Southfield Area
